Svendborg

Getting there & away

Svendborg is the transit point between Odense and the southern Funen islands. It’s 44km southeast of Odense on Rte 9, 33km southwest of Nyborg on Rte 163 and 27km east of Faaborg on Rte 44.

Land

Bus & train

The bus and train stations are a few streets north of the ferry terminal.

There are frequent bus services between Svendborg and Faaborg (930 and 962, 45kr, 40 minutes), Rudkøbing (800, 801 and 910, 38kr, 25 minutes) and other Funen towns.

Trains leave Odense for Svendborg about once an hour (61kr, one hour).

Boat

Ferries to Ærøskøbing depart five times a day, the last at 10.30pm in summer.

M/S Helge, sails between Svendborg and Tåsinge.

You can visit the islands of Drejø, Skarø and Hjortø on a day trip via small passenger-­only ferries that leave from Svendborg’s harbour. Detailed timetables are available at the Svendborg tourist office and at www.visitsvendborg.dk. The Hjortø ferry (40 97 95 18, 62 54 15 18; adult/2-14yr 70/45kr, bicycle 25kr) generally sails twice daily. The Drejø & Skarø ferry (62 21 02 62; adult/4-12yr return 80/50kr, bicycle 30kr) has three to five sailings daily (sailing time 30 to 75 minutes, depending on route).
