Lucerna Music Bar
Nostalgia reigns supreme at this atmospheric old theatre, now looking a little dog-eared, with anything from Beatles tribute bands to mainly Czech artists playing jazz, blues, pop, rock and more on midweek nights. But the most popular event – don’t ask us why – is the regular 1980s and ‘90s video party held every Friday and Saturday night, which pulls in huge crowds of young locals bopping along to Duran Duran and Gary Numan.

Baráčnická Rychta
Atmospherically tucked away behind Nerudova along a winding Malá Strana street, this 19th-century beer hall feels a bit furtive and secretive - at least for this neck of the woods. In the small upstairs bar you can sup four types of Svijanský beer as well as the more common Pilsner Urquell; food is also served. Downstairs, the larger Cabaret Hall hosts big bands and offbeat live gigs.

Retro Music Hall
There’s been a dance club here for years, but Retro Music Hall has come into its own in the past year or two as a live venue for old rockers, niche bands and, well, ‘retro’ acts as diverse as Asia and Fishbone (yes, they’re both apparently still touring). Consult the website for what’s on when you’re in town. Definitely worth checking out.

Malostranská Beseda
Malá Strana’s former town hall now houses a large café–bar that hosts anything from hard rock to bluegrass via jazz and folk, playing to a young, mostly Czech crowd – it packs out early, particularly on weekends.
