Close to the five-star St Raphael Resort, at the far eastern end of the tourist centre; an indoor and outdoor club with various bars and dance areas. The music mix is Greek and European chart sounds.

A
Different Bar
'Different' is different in that it is a gay bar and is not as tacky as all the bars and eateries surrounding it. The front terrace has simple square tables and stools, and a big steel sign.

-
Moufflon Bookshop
This shop deals primarily in English-language titles (new and secondhand) and stocks a wide range of Lonely Planet guides. It has a good section of books on Cyprus both in English and Greek.

B
Cyprus Handicrafts Centre
Get your Cypriot lace and embroideries here at decent prices, as well as leather ware, mosaics, ceramics and pottery. Even better, watch these local products being made at various workshops.

C
Almond Tree
One of Pafos' better-kept culinary secrets, featuring Cypriot 'fusion' cuisine. Thai-Cypriot tastes titillate the palate along with a smattering of stock Cypriot and international dishes.

D
Alexander's
If you don't want to get too involved, but want to see it all, this place has an all-encompassing view of the action. It's a definite voyeur's favourite, located at the top of the Square.

Vrysoudia Beach
It's not particularly attractive, but the water is clean and fine for swimming when there is no surf. There's a range of facilities, from umbrellas for hire to restaurants and toilets.

E
Mondo
A spacious café and bar with an upstairs terrace, catering for all types and not only the usual blonde-highlights and plenty of lip-gloss girls, or muscle and designer-wear boys.

F
Limelight
This is an old favourite in town, with charcoal-grilled dishes such as steak, lobster, fish and chicken, as well as succulent suckling lamb and pig. Not a good place for vegetarians.

Mother's Restaurant
A good place for a bit of fish, which explains all the cats lounging in the courtyard. The fresh seafood platter is a good starter for two people. It also serves 'vetererian' dishes.

Nicosia Race Club
In the western suburb of Agios Dometios, this club caters for keen horse punters. Meets are normally held on Wednesdays and Sundays in winter and Wednesdays and Saturdays in summer.

Freedom Reggae Bar
A bar with a difference in that it opens for breakfast, when clubbed out punters head here for the exceptionally chilled-out atmosphere. Freedom even serves an early Sunday roast.

-
Village Tavern
Get your whiskers into a juicy stifado (beef and onion stew) or feast on some kleftiko (oven-baked lamb) here after a hard day's hiking. Try the house red wine.

-
Kyklos Café
A great place for the gap-year crowd and backpackers who want to chat to their mates, smoke lots of nargileh (the really in thing to do), and play backgammon 'til late.

H
Times Café Music Bar
A relaxed, stylish bar with sofas, great for lounging about on a hot summer's night. It's next to Encounters nightclub, with live funky jazz on Sundays and rock on Wednesdays.

J
Grease
Features classic tunes from the '70s to the '90s plus the soundtrack hits from the movie. Relive teenage bliss and dress up like Sandy and Danny. Rydell High is not out yet.

-
Main Beach
The main beach is usually very crowded and strewn from end to end with umbrellas and beach loungers, but everyone seems to be able to find a spot for themselves somewhere.

-
Kapetanissa Fish Restaurant
Great, simple food, freshly cooked. This modest place, famous for its tasty fish and unique one-person fish meze, is on the Dekelia road, close to the Palm Beach Hotel.

Pahit Ice
So many ice-cream flavours, so little time. A local ice-cream maker whose outside tables are always full of kids, families and just about anyone on the hot summer days.

Erodos
This is certainly the loveliest front yard in the Old City, on Plateia Tyllirias, abutting the Omeriye Hammam. The food is reasonable, although by no means exquisite.

-
Corridor
Pitched mainly at a local Greek clientele, with Greek pop music and dancers, plus some UK dance tunes thrown in for good measure. It's usually closed in high summer.

The longest-standing venue in town and, according to some hard-core clubbers, the best. It has an eclectic mix of music nights, attracting just about anybody.
