Ice Cream Parlor restaurants in Cuba

  1. A

    Cremería el Kikiri

What, no Coppelia? Kikiri is Sancti Spíritus' longstanding provincial stand-in and is actually – ahem – better. Alternatively, hang around long enough in Parque Serafín Sánchez and a DIY ice-cream man will turn up with his ice-cream maker powered by a washing-machine motor.

    Cremería las Copas

Las Tunas' substitute Coppelia; queue up with your pesos for sundaes or tres gracias (three scoops) in flavors such as coconut, and café con leche (espresso with milk). Not surprisingly, it's insanely popular.

  3. C

    Heladería

A substantial tres gracias (three scoops) at this clean, cheerful place is the price of half a teaspoon's worth of Haagen Daas.

  4. D

    Tropi Crema

In the absence of a Coppelia, the Tropi, on the southwest corner of Parque Céspedes, does its best – in pesos.

  5. E

    Coppelia

Just to remind you you're still in Cuba, there's a Coppelia. Head here to satisfy all ice-cream cravings.

  6. F

    Cremería las Begonias

Just across the street from the eponymous cafetería is another cafe that doubles as a Cubatur office and offers the best ice cream in town.

  7. G

    Coppelia

At two pesos a scoop, this place practically gives away ice cream.

  8. H

    Coppelia

This lackluster place is near the bus station.

    Coppelia

Stock up on peso ice cream at this architecturally hideous, but massive, construction.

    La Arboleda

Santiago's ice-cream cathedral is a little out of the center, not that this lessens the queue length. Yell out ¿Quién es último? (who is last?) and take your place on the Av de los Libertadores side of the parlor. Milkshakes are sometimes sold from the outside window.

    Heladería Km 969

Got bored waiting in the queues at Coppelia? Cross Victoriano Garzón to this less-frenetic pit stop where you should be enjoying your copa de helado (ice-cream sundae) within minutes.

    Coppelia

What, a Coppelia with no queues? Set above the new shopping complex in Parque de las 8000 Taquillas, Varadero's ice-cream cathedral is bright, airy and surprisingly uncrowded.
