Restaurante Criollo
Out near the hospital, this is an atmospheric restaurant with standard pork and chicken dishes in above-par surrounds. It abuts a vast patio which transforms into another top cabaret venue aftern the sun goes down.

Rumayor
The best food in Pinar del Río is probably found here at Rumayor, located 2km north of the town center, off the Carretera a Viñales. Justly famous for its succulent pollo ahumado (smoked chicken), you'll pay a little extra here (around CUC$10), but it is definitely worth it. This is one of Pinar's premier cabaret spots in the evening.

Another good, private eatery a bit out of the center, this serves fish all ways including filete Canciller (fish stuffed with ham and cheese).

Coppelia
You’ll require the patience of a saint, but the two peso a scoop ice cream (when there is ice cream) is cheap and the atmosphere is usually cheerful.

A substantial tres gracias (three scoops) at this clean, cheerful place is the price of half a teaspoon's worth of Haagen Daas.

Mercado Agropecuario
Pinar del Río's colorful open-air market is almost on top of the tracks near the train station. You'll see the odd tour group tramping through here getting a grip on Special Period economics.

El Rápido
Yes, Pinar del Río’s struggling restaurant scene might be scant enough to merit a visit to Cuba’s proverbial McDonald’s where the chickens are born fried and soggy pizzas materialize microwaved.

La Casona
Hard to believe, but this is Pinar's best government-run restaurant outside Rumayor. Encouragingly there are tablecloths and wine glasses here, along with steak, chicken and pasta on the menu, but positioned unstrategically on the town's busiest nexus the hissing hustlers are never far away. Get a seat away from the door.
