Lonely Planet review for Los Nardos

Directly opposite the Capitolio but easy to miss, Los Nardos is one of a handful of semi-private Havana restaurants operated by the Spanish Asturianas society. Touted in some quarters as one of the best eateries in the city, this unprepossessing place is decked out in mahogany and leather and serves up such astoundingly delicious dishes as lobster in a Catalan sauce, garlic prawns with sautéed vegetables and an authentic Spanish paella. Portions are huge and the prices, which start at around CUC$4 for chicken and pork dishes, are unbelievably cheap.

Good food for a good price (not the cheapest pick though).

Watch out: they only sell wine by the bottle not by the glass. Our waiter dind't explain this very well... let's say it was a language barrier. Nice touch: There's a little orchestra of which the violin player will come and play at your table.

Los Nardos - great price, great food...when it is available

The beautiful woodwork inside the restaurant makes the long wait for a table worth it. The sweet smell of nardos floats around the waiting and dining areas. We waited on lovely wooden rocking chairs and swings as we admired the amazing wine display. When we were finally seated, we were told that they had no fish, no lobster and several other major ingredients. I still did not have any trouble finding something delicious to order. The cost was very low. The portions were absolutely ridiculous; I could never eat that much. We were entertained by an overzealous pianist. He played quite well, but rather loudly. Our group drank several bottles of wine and never felt rushed to leave. We ate a long enjoyable meal in an exciting beautiful atmosphere.
