Understandably, politics may come up when people talk Cuba. We accept that and believe it's both naive and unhelpful to pretend it's not a part of travel and Cuban experience.
However, if you wish to start topics on Cuban or U.S. politics then you have come to the wrong place, as this is primarily a forum for travellers and locals to exchange advice and connect.
If you'd like to post travel related news items please post a couple of brief paragraphs with a link to the complete article.

Part 2 of few random observations from my most recent 3 weeks in Cueto
A number of official rules and regulations are consistently ignored by everyone including authorities. These are deemed “made in Havana, for folks in Havana” but simply impracticable out in the small towns in the provinces. For example, my girlfriend’s house does not legally exist because it once did not have a toilet, only an outhouse. So her official address on her carnet is her mother’s house. But everything else in life…
A few random observations from my most recent 3 weeks in Cueto, a town of 14,393 people in remote Holguin province where I live part time with my Cuban girlfriend. I am the only foreigner in town.
I sometime joke that that I have seen everything but the kitchen sink as cargo on the flights to Cuba departing from Miami. It happened. The guy in front of me at check in was carrying a large double kitchen sink and checked it as baggage. He must not have been headed to Cueto as I have only ever seen…
We have our itinerary almost defined; we only need to determine where to spend three nights on our way from Santiago to Cayo Guillermo.
We are undecided between three options:
- Bayamo (visiting Comandancia de la Plata)
- Holguin (visiting Guardalavaca, Gibara)
Which option would you recommend (or discard) assuming that we are visiting also La Habana, Baracoa, Santiago, Cayo Guillermo and Trinidad? Our interests are varied: Culture, Nature, History, at a slow pace...
Hello to all,
im making a last minute trip to cuba for the first time, and i only have 5 days which i know its not much, but i have to take advantage of it and just go,
im planning on staying in havana most of the time, but i wanted to ask where do you recommend me to go for a day trip (or 2) out of the city to at least get a glimpseof the country,
i was wondering if its possible to head to vinales and come back to same day, or to matanzas and or cienfuegos, all recommendations are very much…
I traveled cuba quite extensively in the 1990s. I was a poor college kid and lived like a cuban. I used cuban pesos for almost everything except casas. I am goi g back in a few weeks with my kids and wanted to know if we could still use cuban pesos for buying street food, drinks, etc. We are NOT resort people and will be traveling mostly in the Oreinte. When i was there the exchange rate was $1USD =$26 cuban pesos (not to be confused with converible pesos.)
I would like advice on what to do over the course of a week long gap in my itinerary. The gap begins in Viñales and ends in Trinidad as that is where I will be joined by friends. We will spend 4 nights in Trinidad and then take a taxi to Havana where we will spend another 4 nights before I leave and they go to Viñales. Therefore I will rule Trinidad and Havana out for that portion of my trip.
Where can I go from Viñales that can take me towards Trinidad so I can meet my friends at the end…
