Understandably, politics may come up when people talk Cuba. We accept that and believe it's both naive and unhelpful to pretend it's not a part of travel and Cuban experience.
However, if you wish to start topics on Cuban or U.S. politics then you have come to the wrong place, as this is primarily a forum for travellers and locals to exchange advice and connect.

Due to Matthew , I had already skipped the Baracoa-part .
My alternative thoughts are to drive with rental car the coast-road west of santiago de cuba along Chivirico & Marea del Portillo to Manzanillo . And then further on passing Bayamo to Gibara .
Is there anyone who may tell me more about the road-conditions along the western coast-part for the moment ?
driving-times along that way ?
suggestions for a good casa in Gibara ?
thanks, Geert ,

I am going to Cuba for the first time flying into Holguin on January 9th, and Leaving January 14th. After we land in Holguin on the 9th, we plan to catch the Viazul or get a taxi to *Santiago de Cuba. On the 12th we are going to return to Holguin and spend some time in Guardalavaca from the 12th - 14th.
P.S. I heard that on January 12th there is a big Carnival in Bayamo (200 miles from Santiago de Cuba & 44 miles from Holguin). Do you think this is a waste of time?
Do you have…
I've started a few other threads about various topics. Myself and my girlfriend are heading next month to Cuba for a holiday. We are going to travel by taxi (she get's while sick on long busses). Anyway I found this site (which has some great reviews on tripadvisor) http://www.taxivinalescuba.com/index.php?secc=home&lang=english
We are traveling Havana > Vinales > Trinidad > Havana. We are thinking of booking a classic car (definitely for the shorter journey Havana > Vinales)…
I'm planning my first trip to Cuba, arriving Dec 26th and staying just over two weeks. With the relaxation in US travel rules and surge in visitors, would more experienced Cuba travelers recommend that I book all my casa in advance? Or is it probably accommodation be available as I travel around? I have booked one in Havana for my arrival but would ideally like to play the rest by ear.
Thanks for any tips you might have!
Just wondering if there are any nice beaches/snorkelling close to Santiago de Cuba? Ideally looking for something that isn't crowded full of tourists and large hotels. Keen to spend a couple of days in Santiago de Cuba and then maybe 6 days by the beach if there are any towns close by.
Thanks in advance!
