Lonely Planet review for Restaurante Plaza Mayor

The best bet courtesy of its on-off lunchtime buffet, which, for around CUC$10, ought to fill you up until dinnertime. Nighttime offerings aren’t bad either if you stick to the chicken and beef, though the atmosphere can be a little flat.

A relaxing evening at Plaza Mayor

    heleninbxl recommends this,

Only the waiting staff of this restaurant have changed since colonial times (in the past they had slaves). Diners can choose to eat inside under the high ceilings and thick wooden beams or outside on the spacious terrasse with a view of the stars. Most travellers choose the latter thanks to the sultry evenings.

Sipping mojito (not the best I've had, but acceptable), whilst listening to the live band lulling my hunger pangs with the haunting melodies of revolutionary songs, was a pleasant way to end a day spent relaxing on the beach, a twenty minute bus ride away. No doubt the shrimp I ordered came from somewhere not too far away from where I had been swimming that same day.

Portions were generous, accompanied by rice and salad; the chicken looked good too. The waiting staff were friendly and attentive; smiling apologetically when they admitted there was only ice-cream for dessert.
