Lonely Planet review
This unique equestrain center is run out of a finca (farm) on the edge of town, but aspiring riders should enquire first with owner Julio at Casa Muñoz in the casco histórico . The finca is also a rescue centre for maltreated and ill horses. Julio set up Project Diana a few years ago to promote better equine care and educate local people in humane horse-training techniques.
Various horse-related activities are offered, including nature excursions and riding lessons, but the highlight is the opportunity to see Julio use his horse-whispering techniques to pacify wild, untrained horses. The huge traditional campesino (country person) food spread offered at the finca has to be tasted to be believed. Prices are between CUC$15 and CUC$30, depending on the activity. Helmets are included for no extra charge.
