An island hopping cycle adventure along Croatia's magical Dalmatian coast
The Dalmatian Coast is one of the true wonders of Europe with the clearest waters in the Mediterranean and great historic and cultural interest. Experiencing this special region by bike is by far the most rewarding way to travel. From your arrival in Split until just before Dubrovnik, your journey will take place on the long and beautiful islands of Brac, Hvar and Korcula, traveling by bike and ferry. The scenery alternates between seaside villages, tiny medieval walled towns and lovely quiet pebbled bays, set against a backdrop of pine forests and mountains. Your final leg takes you to the red roofs of Dubrovnik, the proud port city that once rivaled Venice in wealth and influence. A shorter 6-day itinerary is also available.
Highlights
- Island hopping and cycling through some of Croatia’s prettiest scenery
- Exploring small fishing villages and the great towns of Dubrovnik and Split
- Experiencing the stunning Dalmatian coast landscapes

Itinerary
Day 1 Arrive Split, transfer to Sutivan on the island of Brac
On arrival at Split Airport you will be transferred by local bus and ferry (50 minutes) to Brac island where you will overnight. The remainder of the day is free to explore the town and surrounding countryside.
Day 2 Ascend Vidova Gora (778m) and return to Supetar (45km)
A reasonably demanding cycle today past picturesque villages with white stone houses and shady pine forest. On the hillside of Vidova Gora 778m (the highest peak of all the Croatian Islands) you will have great views of the sea and mainland and from the top a view out to the famous Zlatni rat, an extraordinary shingle spit and the neighbouring islands. Return via Škrip, the island's oldest settlement and Splitska and cool off by the wonderful pebble beach on the way.
Day 3 By boat to the island of Hvar
The morning begins with a transfer by boat to the island of Hvar (via Split) and the town of Stari Grad / Pharos, the oldest town in Croatia. Stari Grad literally translates as ‘old town’ and was established in 384BC. The remainder of the day is free to explore the town and surrounds. Near to the town are pine forests, olive groves and vineyards, while the town itself has a unique harbour and interesting narrow alleyways leading to café’s and small squares. Overnight in an apartment.
Day 4 Cycle to Hvar Town (40km)
From town Stari Grad the cycle continues to historic Hvar town. On arrival there is free time to explore Hvar town with its exquisite Venetian-style architecture or have a swim. It is worth taking a boat to the Pakleni islands that are the most attractive and most visited spot. They can be reached from Hvar by motor boats that leave every 15 minutes. The islands, acting as a natural shelter for Hvar port, have been inhabited since Illyrian times. Return to Stari Grad for overnight accommodation.
Day 5 Cycle east to Jelsa famous for its production of red wines (15km)
Your exploration of the island of Hvar continues by cycling east to Jelsa. The town is quite small but is well known for producing excellent red wines. Jelsa is surrounded by mountains including the two highest on the island, and is a great place to spend the night.
Day 6 Continue east to the port of Sucuraj, then by boat via the mainland to Korcula (52km)
From Jelsa the cycle continues east along the narrow part of the island with views of both coasts, heading to port of Sucuraj. On arrival at the port you take a ferry via the mainland town of Drvenik to Korcula, your base for next three nights.
Day 7 Circuit through the forest taking in isolated beaches (5-15km)
The suggested cycle route today is a circuit on the forested island of Korcula, taking in quiet beaches including Lumbarda. The distance you cycle today depends on your personal preference. Overnight Korcula.
Day 8 Free day to explore or relax
Today is free to explore Korcula island. Considered by many as the jewel island of the Adriatic coast, there is plenty to explore. The medieval main town is a mini fortress enclosing honey buildings made of square-cut limestone. 2000 years ago Korcula was a favourite with the Greeks as a holiday spot and the beauty and attractions remain today.
Day 9 By ferry to the mainland, bike through the vineyards of Peljesac Peninsula (22km)
The final cycle day begins with a transfer by ferry to the mainland at Pelješac. The cycle route meanders through the vineyards of Peljesac peninsula. Another ferry takes you from Trpanj to Ploce on the mainland where you will be picked up and transferred by car or van to Dubrovnik. Accommodation in Dubrovnik.
Day 10 Trip concludes in Dubrovnik
