Getting there & away
Land
Bus
From the Pula bus station (502 997; Istarske Brigade bb) there are nine daily buses that head to Rijeka (66KN to 75KN, two hours). They are sometimes crowded so you should reserve a seat a day in advance if you can. Going from Pula to Rijeka, be sure to sit on the right-hand side of the bus for a stunning view of the Gulf of Kvarner.
Train
There are two daily trains to Ljubljana, Slovenia (125KN, four hours), and two to Zagreb (134KN, 6½ hours), but you must board a bus for part of the trip.
Boat
Jadroagent (210 431; jadroagent-pula@pu.t-com.hr; Riva 14; 9am-6pm Mon-Fri) has schedules and tickets for boats connecting Istria with Italy and the islands.
Air
The airport is located 12km northeast of town, and there are weekday early-morning flights to Zagreb (475KN, 45 minutes). Croatia Airlines (218 909; www.croatiaairlines.hr; Carrarina 8; 8am-4pm Mon-Fri, 9am-noon Sat) has an office here.
