Croatia Apartments

Budget accommodation includes campgrounds, hostels and some guesthouses, and costs up to 450KN for a double. Midrange accommodation costs 450KN to 800KN a double, while top end starts from 800KN and can go as high as 4000KN per double. For hotels, breakfast is often included.

Private accommodation is a lot more affordable in Croatia, and is often great value. If you don’t mind forgoing hotel facilities, it’s a great way to vacation.

Accommodation providers will handle travellers’ registration with the local police, as required by Croatian authorities. To do this, they will need to take your passport away overnight.

Along the coast, accommodation is priced according to four seasons, which vary from place to place:

  • November to March are the cheapest months. There may only be one or two hotels open in a coastal resort but you’ll get great rates.
  • Generally, April, May and October are the next cheapest months.
  • June and September are the shoulder season.
  • In July and August you’ll pay top price. The peak period runs from late July to mid- or late August. In these months you should make arrangements in advance.
  • Note that many establishments add a 30% charge for stays shorter than three nights and include ‘residence tax’, which is around 7KN per person per day.
  • Accommodation is generally cheaper in Dalmatia (except in Dubrovnik and Hvar) than in Kvarner or Istria.
