Dubrovnik debrief
Blog: La Tortuga Viajera - 28 October 2011
The buzz about Croatia is fierce these days. So when my mom offered a birthday trip to Dubrovnik, I got all geared up for sun-kissed coasts, a heavy dose of Balkan culture and exceeded expectations lurking around every cobbled corner. I found my sun, but the truth is, my trip left me a bit confused. [...]

Lady in the Balkans
Blog: A Lady in London - 3 October 2011
Most people thought I was crazy to travel to the Balkans by myself. I was lectured on safety, on health, on everything imaginable. But I had been curious about the region for years, not least because the only thing I really knew about it related to the conflicts in the 1990’s. There was surely more [...]

Lady in Dubrovnik
Blog: A Lady in London - 20 September 2011
I was nervous to return to Dubrovnik. It’s not that there was anything wrong with the city. It was just that I hadn’t been there in over eight years, and I was afraid that everything had changed. Back when I first visited, most Americans had never heard of the place, let alone been there. But [...]

New Book Roars
Blog: A Traveler's Library - 29 April 2011
Destination: The Former Yugoslavia Book: The Tiger’s Wife (NEW March 2011) by Téa Obreht The thought that kept haunting me as I read this novel was, “How did this magical realism get transferred from South and Central America to the Balkans? ” The Tiger’s Wife is full of legends, fables, and myths–magical explanations of otherwise unexplainable events.

Dubrovnik, I Don’t Hate You
Blog: Lonely Girl Travels - 29 September 2010
Amid the souvenoir shops, currency exchange offices and endless umbrellas of the tourist restaurants of Dubrovnik’s Old Town, I realized that something in me had changed. It wasn’t a sudden, burning-bush kind of change, but slower, more subtle. It’s something that’s been changing in me, I suspect, for some time, without me noticing it—a transformation, [...]

Dubrovnik: from war zone to tourist hotspot
Blog: 501 Places - 27 September 2010
Looking out over the mass of tiled roofs from the famous city walls it’s hard to believe the traumas that the city of Dubrovnik and its residents has been through in the last 20 years. The near perfect uniformity of the earthy red colour hints at a world recently restored, yet the evidence of a [...]Dubrovnik: from war zone to tourist hotspot is a post from: 501 Places

A Week of Sun and Sea in Dubrovnik
Blog: London Cosmopolitan - 24 September 2010
Having never been to the Balkans and looking for some sun before the long winter hibernation, Keenan and I booked a late summer getaway to Dubrovnik on the Adriatic Sea.

Day 178: Nudebathing Dubrovnik
Blog: Diaries of a Vagabonding Couple - 11 August 2010
An old boat sailing pass Dubrovnik We were at a nudist bay on Lokrum island just outside Dubrovnik. The views were amazing (c'mon people, I'm talking about the sea...) and the water so clear you could see 15ft below. Everybody was just happy to let it hang (including myself). Being bare all for all, the area was much less crowded and way more laid back than the island's other swimming holes.

Dalmatia in Pictures
Blog: Twenty-Something Travel - 18 April 2010
There is a reason that Croatia is such a European hot spot, and that reason is the stunning Dalmatia Coast. During my Australian Party Island Hopping Cruise I got to see quite a bit of the golden island which dot this corner of the Adriatic. Here are some of the highlights. The heart of the coastal [...]

This is a guest post by Neha. If you want to guest post on Go Backpacking, please read more here. From April to late October the sun settles over the Adriatic; the days are long and warm, and are best enjoyed in summer whites, flip-flops, and a glass of something cold. It’s the perfect time to visit, [...]--------- Join Travel Blog Success today and learn to build a better travel blog. Membership includes 12 lessons, community forum, audio interviews, and a blog.

What I learned in Croatia (The List)
Blog: The Adventures of D - 15 February 2010
1. If you want Zagreb’s Upper Town to yourself for wandering, it is deserted at 2 a.m. There is nothing more magical than having the city in your hands to breathe in. Even if nothing is open, to walk on the old streets, to see the gothic buildings, it is an amazing experience. Bonus points if [...]

Sun, sand and the best bar ever
Blog: The Adventures of D - 10 February 2010
I love Saturdays. Except when the Saturday is my last day in Croatia. Then, I despise it. Chopper and I had a grand plan for my last full day of traveling: lounge at the beach and then head out to a nice birthday dinner for myself. And we did just that. He met me mid-morning and we headed [...]

The City of Stairs
Blog: The Adventures of D - 5 February 2010
I looked up at the stairs that seemed to rise to the sky. Panting. We had made it up the first few sets of stairs, me trying to balance the very unsteady bag I had on my back. I had specifically taken this piece of luggage for my trip because it had wheels (!) and straps to turn into one massive backpack. But, it really wasn't made to be balanced on a back.

Budva, Montenegro – August 9th, 2009. I am up way to early, grab some food and then do the bolt to the bus stop. As there is only one bus before my bus to my newest destination, its time to go early. I don’t get to say goodbye to anyone that I’ve met. Oh well. I [...]

Dubrovnik, Croatia – August 7th, 2009. I wake up just in time for breakfast, and get stuck into some french toast and some bosnian coffee. I take my sweet time getting ready to head into the Old Town. Then I make my way down to the bus stop to get to the Centre. Its a bit [...]

To the city wall..
Blog: Murmurs from a foriegn land. - 6 December 2009
Dubrovnik, Croatia – August 6th, 2009. A bit of a brief blog, but not much really happened on this day. I had originally planned to go to Mljet, but no hostels on that Island meant going to Dubrovnik instead. Not a big deal. Only problem is, the next ferry leaves in a few days time. Oh [...]
