Dubrovnik is not a large city, but as it’s such a big draw, accommodation is scattered all over the place. It’s the most expensive city in the country – so expect to have to pay more for a room here. Lots of midrange hotels are in Lapad, 4km west of the centre; there’s very little accommodation in the old town. As the bus system is good, it’s not so bad to be located away from the centre. Book all accommodation well in advance, especially in the summer season. If you’re on a budget, you’ll have little choice but to go for private accommodation: contact the recommended travel agencies or the tourist office for options.
