  1. Zadar – Croatia's Most Underrated City

Blog: Brilliant Tips Travel Blog - 5 January 2012

Zadar is an important Croatian coastal city that has undergone a startling revival in recent years. The musical steps on the waterfront are interesting and express the important relationship this walled city has with the sea. One of the many interesting sights includes the Crvka Sv Donata, Church of Saint Donat, which is thought of [...]

  2. The days after death

    Blog: The Adventures of D - 16 November 2010

“These feelings won’t go away … they’ve been knocking me sideways …” For the two days after Grandma died, I walked around in a haze. Numb. Listening to the same song on repeat for 12 hours and not once getting sick of it, not once singing along. It was just background to my grief. “There’s [...]

  3. Backtracking

    Blog: The Adventures of D - 10 November 2010

I pulled up hostel after hostel, bus schedule after bus schedule, as I sat on my bunk bed in Zadar. I had wanted to go up the coast to the Istria region of Croatia, to hop some islands before I boarded my flight from Zadar to Frankfurt, and from Frankfurt to Washington, DC. No hostels. [...]

  4. The final reunion

    Blog: The Adventures of D - 9 November 2010

A wave of happiness rushed over me as soon as I saw Katie, sitting under an awning at the yellow bus station in Trogir. The bus ride from Split to Trogir had taken a little longer than expected, and I had told her I would do my very best to meet her there by 10:30 [...]

  5. Realization

    Blog: The Adventures of D - 8 November 2010

I never imagined my brain would tell me I wanted to go home. Early. But, it did that night in Split. I had 10 days left of my trip. Originally, and for months, I had planned on extending my adventure, heading to Spain (for the sixth time), back to Merida to see my friends and [...]

  6. Day 174: Croatia, getting better!

Blog: Diaries of a Vagabonding Couple - 5 August 2010

View from the bus: A Croatian village along the Adriatic coast The sun is turning gold as it dips toward the horizon. We are headed to Bosnia, bussing along one of the world's most beautiful coastlines. I remember this coastline. Croatia may feel a little different from the last time, but the shimmering blue Adriatic remains the same. Plitvice National Park: turquoise waters cascading from

  7. What I learned in Croatia (The List)

    Blog: The Adventures of D - 15 February 2010

    1. If you want Zagreb’s Upper Town to yourself for wandering, it is deserted at 2 a.m. There is nothing more magical than having the city in your hands to breathe in. Even if nothing is open, to walk on the old streets, to see the gothic buildings, it is an amazing experience. Bonus points if [...]

  8. Organ zounds

Blog: Murmurs from a foriegn land. - 26 November 2009

Zadar – July 27th, 2009. Awaken to a rattling carriage and a sore back is not exactly pleasant. But when you stand up, slip out of the human tetris ball, and to the window to be met by a gorgeous rolling countryside and one of the prettiest sunrises I have seen is downright amazing. Something I [...]

  9. Rock and Water

Blog: Murmurs from a foriegn land. - 25 November 2009

Bled, Slovenia – July 26th, 2009. Up pretty early by my standards, we leave at 9 for Canyoning, and I grab some breakfast – big tub of yoghurt – and wait for the girls at their hostel. They seem to have had a pretty big night after I left – with some picking up slovenian men [...]

  10. The Great Summer Adventure – Croatia, Italy and Monaco

    Blog: MatthewGain.com - 17 July 2008

Well the tan may be fading – let’s face it what hope does a ginger have getting a true tan anyways – but the looking back at the pics makes me still feel like I am still there – handy given the shitty summer weather. Below are some of the top memories and great pictures. Trip details – Landed in Dubrovnik Croatia on 28 July and travelled north up the Adriatic Coast through Split, Hvar Island, Zadar, Rab Island and Opatija, before getting a ferry to Venice, Italy. From Venice we travelled by train to Cinque Terre and down to Monaco where I celebrated my birthday.
