  3. Travel Porn: Fresh Seafood, How Brave a Traveler are you?

    Blog: Todd's Wanderings - 30 September 2011

Are you a brave enough traveler to ignore the dead head and focus on the fresh tuna? Travel Porn delivers visual stimulation from around the world each week (most likely Fridays when I’m not stuck in a backwater somewhere). If this doesn’t get you hot, bothered, and fantasizing about your packed luggage (carry on, roll on, backpack, whatever turns you on) you might not be a traveler… Fresh seafood in Split, Croatia‘s fish market. It may be my years in Japan, or the fact that I grew up on an island but a fresh chunk of tuna really gets me going.

  4. Realization

    Blog: The Adventures of D - 8 November 2010

I never imagined my brain would tell me I wanted to go home. Early. But, it did that night in Split. I had 10 days left of my trip. Originally, and for months, I had planned on extending my adventure, heading to Spain (for the sixth time), back to Merida to see my friends and [...]

  5. Getting over Split

    Blog: The Adventures of D - 4 November 2010

I walked slowly, silently and solo back to CroParadise and crawled into my bed. I looked across the bed to where Katie had been. Empty. Then, as if on cue, Carl walked back into our room. “Heya,” I said, looking up from my laptop to see him standing next to his bed. “Hi,” he replied. [...]

  6. “See you soon,” the Split version

    Blog: The Adventures of D - 3 November 2010

“Katie,” I mumbled, waking up from my semi-drunken slumber the next morning, “what the hell happened to David?” Katie looked at me from her bunk. “What?” “He never came back to the bar last night. I hope he’s ok,” I said, images of him laying in one of the narrow UNESCO alleys of Split being [...]

  7. Backpacker shenanigans

    Blog: The Adventures of D - 2 November 2010

Katie, David and I walked together back through the old city of Split after hugging Danica goodbye. Rain clouds had begun to make their way from the mountains to the coast, rolling in slowly and ominously. We hadn’t made any reservations for hostels, so we just started dropping in to places. Our first stop was [...]

  8. Getting away from the Split crowds

    Blog: Itinerant Londoner - 25 October 2010

Split was undeniably stunning, but it was pretty crowded too, and after a couple of days of wandering around, I was ready for somewhere a bit quieter, and a quick flick through the guidebook revealed that it wasn’t the only … Continue reading →

  9. Traveling the world to say “thank you”

    Blog: The Adventures of D - 21 October 2010

There are some nights you can’t sleep because you are so excited for what the next day holds. Every night of my trip, that was my story. But, my last night in Brela, it stood true even more than usual. The next morning, Katie, David and I were boarding a bus up the coast to [...]

  10. Which country is this again?

    Blog: Itinerant Londoner - 20 October 2010

Before this year, about the only things I knew about Split were that it once hosted the European Athletics Championships and that it was the home town of tennis player Goran Ivanišević. But flights at short notice to Dubrovnik or … Continue reading →

  11. Dalmatia in Pictures

    Blog: Twenty-Something Travel - 18 April 2010

There is a reason that Croatia is such a European hot spot, and that reason is the stunning Dalmatia Coast. During my Australian Party Island Hopping Cruise I got to see quite a bit of the golden island which dot this corner of the Adriatic. Here are some of the highlights. The heart of the coastal [...]

  12. What I learned in Croatia (The List)

    Blog: The Adventures of D - 15 February 2010

    1. If you want Zagreb’s Upper Town to yourself for wandering, it is deserted at 2 a.m. There is nothing more magical than having the city in your hands to breathe in. Even if nothing is open, to walk on the old streets, to see the gothic buildings, it is an amazing experience. Bonus points if [...]

  13. The City of Stairs

    Blog: The Adventures of D - 5 February 2010

I looked up at the stairs that seemed to rise to the sky. Panting. We had made it up the first few sets of stairs, me trying to balance the very unsteady bag I had on my back. I had specifically taken this piece of luggage for my trip because it had wheels (!) and straps to turn into one massive backpack. But, it really wasn't made to be balanced on a back.

  14. Split It

Blog: Murmurs from a foriegn land. - 1 December 2009

Split, Croatia – July 31st, 2009. Somehow after crawling to bed at about 6, I am up at 10. Weird. But very very gingerly I may add. I grab some breakky next door at the grocery store and chill in the hostel for a bit. Tease the croatian hostel girl for a bit and head [...]

  15. Hello, I’m in Delaware….wait Split.

Blog: Murmurs from a foriegn land. - 29 November 2009

Split, Croatia – July 30th, 2009. After a pretty dreadful breakfast, that consisted of stale bread and tuna paste (seriously nothing else) and a lukewarm coffee, I leave for the bus station with Sarah. We both decide to get some decent food at the supermarket before buying our tickets. My bus leaves pretty much straight away, so [...]

  16. Playstation generation

Blog: Send The Bugger Back - 5 September 2009

Last night I spent my time drinking beer round the small but nice hostel while waiting for a group of Americans to vacate (or should that be holiday?) the living room so I could have a crack on the PS3. There was a beach party going down on the, erm, beach. I’d had a half [...]

Blog: Send The Bugger Back - 3 September 2009

I’ve just split from the hostel and am now on my way south to erm, Split (aww come on, you knew I was gonna use it at some point). While walking to the station I passed a scary old gypsy lady begging, she looked really like the one from ‘Drag Me To Hell‘. Everyone was [...]

  18. The Great Summer Adventure – Croatia, Italy and Monaco

    Blog: MatthewGain.com - 17 July 2008

Well the tan may be fading – let’s face it what hope does a ginger have getting a true tan anyways – but the looking back at the pics makes me still feel like I am still there – handy given the shitty summer weather. Below are some of the top memories and great pictures. Trip details – Landed in Dubrovnik Croatia on 28 July and travelled north up the Adriatic Coast through Split, Hvar Island, Zadar, Rab Island and Opatija, before getting a ferry to Venice, Italy. From Venice we travelled by train to Cinque Terre and down to Monaco where I celebrated my birthday.
