Lonely Planet review
Founded in 1921, this venerable monument has a convenient bay-front location and is the most aesthetically pleasing of all Split's bigger hotels. Leading off stylishly appointed corridors, the relatively small guest rooms are attractively modernised. However there's no pool.
Beds are comfy but the bathrooms are relatively cramped and have showers not tubs. CNN and Eurosport are the only English language TV channels. Service tends to be slow and aloof and for a palace with over 50 rooms the single eight-person elevator seems rather inadequate. None of these factors need spoil your stay. If you need more space there's always the Presidential suite where ministers of the Croatian government stay when on business in Split. The quiet, yet relatively central location, is close to a small public beach and to the popular Bačvice dining/entertainment complex. And it's hard not to be seduced by the hotel's magical cypress-facing restaurant-terrace where mature palm trees are wrapped like Christmas presents in coils of twinkling fairy lights.
