Introducing Valle de Coto Brus
Tucked in between the Cordillera de Talamanca and the Fila Costeña, this valley offers some glorious geography, featuring the green, rolling hills of the coffee plantations backed by striking mountain facades, towering as much as 3350m above. The principal road leaves the Interamericana at Paso Real (near Curré) and follows the Río Jaba to the pretty mountain town of San Vito, then continues south to rejoin the Interamericana at Neily. This winding mountain road (paved, but poorly maintained) offers spectacular scenery and a thrilling ride.

This corner of the country is well removed from the typical tourist track. But birders and botanists make the journey to Wilson Botanical Garden, while adventurers and outdoorsy types are eager to explore the Parque Internacional La Amistad. At least three different indigenous groups inhabit parts of the international park, while the Guaymí also have a reserve near San Vito.
