Maverick's
A somewhat obscure corner of the American barbecue palate is the Central California tradition known as Santa Maria barbecue, which is exactly what the Central Californian owners cook up here. In addition to burgers, dogs, and tender smoky chicken and ribs, they offer fresh grilled seafood on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, and that old Santa Maria staple: roast tri-tip. The dining patio views are sublime, but they'll pack your order to go if you wish.

Restaurant Betico Mata
This carnivore’s paradise at the south end of town specializes in gallos (open-faced tacos on corn tortillas) piled with succulent, fresh-grilled meats including beef, chicken, sausage or pork, all soaked in the special house marinade. All go smashingly well with an ice-cold beer. The restaurant has a counter that faces the street – making it easy to park and pick up a snack if you’re driving through town.
