Good morning. I am an older traveler, age 63 wishing to visit Costa rica for 10 days this summer.I will be alone and am a seasoned traveler. Can anyone provide any suggestions as to where to go, how to split up the trip. I am interested in beautiful scenery as well as the cultural/history component of the country.

Any suggestions?

Thank you in advance.

Hi,
We have had some great advice from here to date.
We are family of 4 (two kids aged 13 and 10) visiting mid July to end of August and seem to be picking up conflicting advice re: health:

1) Do we definitely need Hep A and Typhoid injections? Any other jabs recommended (we are not great vaccination fans and kids have only had basic triple vaccine you have to have plus tetanus. Not had MMR.

2) We are going to Caribe side but not off beaten track particularly. Do we need any kind of malarial…

Hey everyone! I'm thinking of going to Costa Rica in July, mainly to hit the coast and do some snorkeling. I was wondering just how rainy is the rainy season? I mean, if I'm gonna be stuck inside all day just watching the beach from my window I'll just reschedule... Thanks a lot!

Hi all

I'm travelling with my family (kids 6 and 8 years old) to Costa Rica in June. To get there, we have to change flights in Panama City. Our local health service and the LP-guide recommend to have a yellow fever vaccination certificate, otherwise you risk that Costa Rica won't let you enter the country. Since we don't stay in Panama (only airport), we would like to avoid unnecessary vaccinations. So our questions are: Does Costa Rica really require the yellow fever vaccination certificate…

Turns out we have an extra day and night, our first in CR, before our rental is available in Punta Uva July 28. We get in to San Jose at 7:30am on July 27. We could stay in San Jose, I was just wondering if there were some place along the way to Punta Uva we should stop and stay the night? Or should we just get out to the Coast and find a place for the night there. We are already spending a week in La Fortuna after our week in Punta Uva. We will have a 4wd rental car.

Hi. I'm an environmental biology grad student, looking for tours in research centers (mammal biology preferred, but not necessary.) We will be staying in Monteverde for a few days, then heading south to Nosara. After a week, we're heading north to Playa del Coco. The research centers I've found require at least a week's stay at their facilities. I would just like to spend the day. Any suggestions? Also, is the bat tour in Monteverde worth the time? Not sure of the name of it. Thanks…

Just looking for advice on an itinerary for my family trip to Costa Rica in July. We're a family of 4, one 7 year old and one little one just under a year old. My wife and I visited the Mal Pais area years ago and loved it. We're planning to rent a 4x4. My wife and I traveled quite a bit before having kids but this will be the first trip outside North America with the whole family. We're very active in the outdoors and lean more towards the adventurous/ budget end of things rather than…

Those initials stand for Mother Of All Strikes which is currently happening in Costa Rica. I have said it before and I am saying it again, Costa Rica has huge financial problems. I had just talked to a friend of mine that is a school teacher and she told me that they hadn't been paid, once again, for two months. The last time they didn't get paid for four months. If you have a trip planned in the next few days, expect road blocks from the airport to San Jose.

The following is what I read…

Hi, I have seen your recommendations to stay in Alajuela coming/going from flights. There are so many places, have some recommendations for reasonably quiet places in walking distance from town for food/drinks. Looking for nicer places around $100.
I only found an old thread on the domestic airlines, and I apologize as I know I read pros/cons but can't find them for Natureair/Sansa. Does one have better windows for sightseeing?
Going to Puerto Jiminez and Samara.
Thanks!!

Hi dear seasoned travellers,

I have found lots of incredibly useful advice here but first time posting. Sister and I are travelling to Costa Rica for a short trip in a few weeks(Saturday morning to Friday Morning), arriving and departing from San Jose. There are some great suggestions on this site for things to see but I have a hard time prioritising, as in 5.5 days we can only see 2 (or maxxx 3) places. A bit about us:

  • cost conscious (but open to car rental), here for the experience, happy…
