The tourist invasion has left Tamarindo with a growing drug (and prostitution) problem. Vendors openly ply their wares (and their women) on the main road by the rotunda, and some bars can get rough at closing time.
Theft is a problem. Leave your hotel room locked, use room safes and don’t leave valuables on the beach. If you’re driving, never leave anything in your car.
