Lonely Planet review

Set high on the Arenal slopes, this sensational, sprawling lodge is the only accommodation in the national park. Rooms range from La Casona’s rustic doubles with shared bathrooms and views from the porch, to plus junior suites, with king-size beds, local art and huge picture windows framing the volcano. Most of the rooms fall somewhere in the middle of this range.

There’s a decent international restaurant on the grounds (as there’s obviously nowhere else to eat in the area). There’s also a small museum, with exhibits on the history, volcanology and hydrology of Arenal. Rates include access to the swimming pool and hiking trails, as well as a free guided walk each morning.

Our independent authors have visited Arenal Observatory Lodge and selected this as one of our recommended accommodation in Parque Nacional Volcán Arenal.
