I hope this helps those backpackers and travelers who still like to do things differently
i recently went on vacation and i always wanted to do the route of going from quepos to La fortuna aka arenal volcano
with out going to san jose and with out using an expensive shuttle or a car
via regular bus

I'm hoping for some advice on the below itinerary. I'm planning on flying into Liberia on 11/26 and out of Liberia on 12/10. I'm interested mainly in surfing (I would consider myself an intermediate surfer), hiking/taking in the incredible nature in CR, and doing some adventure activities like ziplining, canyoning, rafting, kayaking, etc. I'm a 28 year old male and will be travelling solo. I'd like to meet other travelers and do a bit of partying while I'm in CR.
11/26: travel to CR…
I am right here in Panama and cannot succeed to visit some locations as I wish since there are too many connections by bus. I plan to follow for Costa Rica and wish to know if you wish to share the cost of a rental car. I am at Boca del Toro right now. I can join you either in Panama or Costa Rica.
In january im travelling to CR and Nicaragua for 23days(flights included).
I would like your opinion about my route
- 1 night sjo
- 5nights dominical
- 2night tenorio np
- 1 night pv de sarapiqui
- 4nights puerto viejo de talamanca
-1 night sjo
- 4 nights ometepe
- 4 nights corn island or granada/masaya
I rent a car during CR and would raft from Pv to sjo the last day in CR.
How long does the drive from uvita to tenoro np take?5h?
We will arrive at SJO 12/19 evening and have plans starting 12/23 to Tortuguera and then Cahuita. No plans yet for 12/19-23 except that we need to be back somewhere near San Jose 12/23 for transport to Tortuguera. We aren't renting a car and don't want super touristy locations. San Gerardo de Dota area and Braullio Carrillo area both sound interesting (thinking non-coastal for this time since we'll be on the Caribe coast for the rest of the trip). Interested in hikes but nothing too strenuous…
We (active 62 y.o. and active 58 y.o. wife) are in the VERY early planning stages for a trip to Costa Rica. Plan is to stay in airbnb places as that has worked well for us foreign and domestically. We will probably also rent a 4x4 to get around and bring our GPS from home. Going for the usual reasons: culture, wildlife, beaches, etc. We like to hike, swim, visit museums, take pictures, etc. Still flexible at this point on exactly how much time we will spend. Thinking Arenal area, Monteverde…
Greetings fellow travelers!
I'm set to embark on my first journey to Costa Rica in mid November and have decided on visiting the Caribbean Coast.
I will start by going straight to Tortuguero from San Jose Airport via shuttle where I will stay for 2-3 days. Then head down the coast past Limon to Puerto Viejo or Manzanillo where I will have about 3-4 days to explore what the beaches, food and nightlife has to offer. Then finally will go on the Pacuare River Day Raft Adventure before getting…
Hey friends! Just starting to plan a trip to central/south america. Going to be me and 2 other buddies. Travelling from Canada to Costa Rica, since flights are cheapest to there and we'd like to hit up the blue marlin haha. We are 3, 25 year old males. Very active and adventure seeking individuals who enjoy to party and have fun. yo hablo poquito espanol and not very good haha but no the basics and want to learn lots when down there. Looking for routes and travel advice. Would like to hit costa…
I will be spending time in the Osa Peninsula and around Golfo Dulce and Piedras Blancas.
As I will not have a car and cannot afford taxis all the time, my question concerns buses travelling the route 2 InterAmerican from Niely / Paso Canoas to Palmar Norte and beyond.
Which buses can I just flag down along route 2? If I am near the town of Piedras Blancas, will I have to backtrack to catch the buses along this road, or can I flag it down anywhere?
Thanks in advance.
