I've spent a month traveling in CR and visited many towns in both the Atlantic coast and Pacific coast regions. And I find Puerto Jiménez to be the least enjoyable. Many hotels were poorly run (rooms were dirty, bathroom with broken plumbings, noisy, poor management). I've been told this town has beeen "occupied" by ex-CIA operatives and other Americans who've made this town home with the mindset of a colonist. So, naturally, many locals aren't happy with the Americans. Though, the Americans…

Can anyone recommend a driver? There are tons of companies that want to charge $240 US to drive me to San Jose. I have an odd hour arrival so shuttles won't work and flights are sold out that day. If anyone knows of someone who can drive me to San Jose, I would be happy. I am willing to pay a decent rate. But $240 seems excessive.

Hi,
I have been considering a couple of places for a winter away, beginning this December. I had at first considered Florida(given up as too rich for my budget) and then Cuba, but am leaning away from there after getting lots of advice from Thorn Tree posters. Costa Rica has been on my travel "to do "list for quite a while and am wondering if it would be appropriate for my winter escape.
To give some background, I am a single, 60 year old male and my budget would be $2,000 US per…

So I'm heading out to Costa Rica for 2 weeks at the end of July and just have a couple of questions mainly about transport and bookings!

First few days will be spent Osa / Drake Bay Area but there are either no flights or they are looking pretty steep on the day I need to head back to SJ airport. Is there a bus route anyone can advise me of? I know it will be time consuming but no more than waiting an extra day in Drake to fly.

Also after 2n Tortugeoro I have 6 nights which I was going to…

I am interested in having a full face lift done in Costa Rica and have read that there are well trained physicians and excellent clinics. This would be an anxiety provoking procedure anywhere. I would appreciate any personal experiences and recommendations that any other members have had. Thank you in advance.

After looking over posts for the last couple of days I know this will be a difficult question to answer....but I was hoping someone who has experience could chime in with some advice.

I will be landing in Liberia about 2:00pm. The hope is to catch a bus to Granada that afternoon so as not to have to stay overnight in Liberia. I have contacted Ticabus and Nicabus about schedules but have not received any real answers that help me. Here are my questions:

  1. I know the busses leave San Jose…

Hi Everyone!
I have read almost every post on Costa Rica with off the beaten path or itinerary advice but I still can't seem to figure out which way I want to go. My husband and I are from Florida, we live about 7 min walk from the beach. We have traveled a lot and off the beaten path and the less touristy way is what we usually go for.

We will be arriving July 1 late at night to SJO and departing July 10th.
I have already booked a flight from SJO to Drake Bay for July 7th and then returning…

We are planning a 30 day trip to CR in February. Our thoughts were to rent an apartment in Santa Ana and use it as our hub. We want to explore by rental car as much of CR as possible and thought we'd be able to do so on day trips with the occasional overnight. As we're doing research on the country, this plan doesn't seem feasible since travel time between distances is so long. Can anyone advise us if this is a reasonable plan? One challenge I have is that I need to be connected to work via…

Also the north of Costa Rica looks interesting Santa Rosa national park. We like going off the beaten track but now we have toddler in tow! Looking for nice chilled beach, beach…
