Hi all,

We are going to Costa Rica for our honeymoon in September. We fly into San Jose late on Sept. 13, and I would love to go to Punta Islita the next day. It seems like flights from San Jose to the local airport on Nature Air are not scheduled in September, the low season. What's the best alternative airport? Liberia? Tambor? We are looking at all transport options for the best comfort/affordability/efficiency balance to get to Punta Islita.

Many thanks!!

Hi all. This winter we're heading to Central America, starting in Costa Rica and I hear they often need proof of onward travel there. We do have return tickets, but those are from El Salvador. Will this be sufficient or would we need some bus-ticket or similar out of Costa Rica? Thanks

Before anyone criticizes me for not doing my homework, I will say right out I have not done my homework. My husband and I just booked flights to San Jose for a 6 day trip leaving in a few days (and that includes flying) because our daughter will be away at camp and we have to go do something, so we decided why not? We need one destination…we can rent a car…we just want to relax and hike and be child-free. Neither of us has time to plan, or even pack really, so we are going to just go. I realize…

Hey! I am planning a trip to Costa Rica and plan to stay for about 110 days, thus my round trip ticket is for over the 90 day tourist visa requirement. Within my time there I plan to take a trip to Nicaragua. I've read that this will "renew" my tourist visa, but do I need to buy the bus ticket before I head to CR to prove that I'll be leaving before 90 days? Or am I good with my roundtrip ticket for now? I welcome any advice. I'm stressin a bit. Thank you!

I will be arriving in Costa Rica SJ on 16 July very late, after 30 hours flight I will spend 1st & 2nd night in San Jose.

Later on the 22 July I will be flying to P Jimenez to meet some friends to hike the Corcovado Park and after a day or 2 in Drake Bay & around. Any tips and advice of where and what best to do before flying to Osa? After Osa I was planning Tortugero, rafting Pacuare & the Caribean area before flying back to S Jose & back to Europe. My main means of travel will be bus…

I've spent a month traveling in CR and visited many towns in both the Atlantic coast and Pacific coast regions. And I find Puerto Jiménez to be the least enjoyable. Many hotels were poorly run (rooms were dirty, bathroom with broken plumbings, noisy, poor management). I've been told this town has beeen "occupied" by ex-CIA operatives and other Americans who've made this town home with the mindset of a colonist. So, naturally, many locals aren't happy with the Americans. Though, the Americans…

Can anyone recommend a driver? There are tons of companies that want to charge $240 US to drive me to San Jose. I have an odd hour arrival so shuttles won't work and flights are sold out that day. If anyone knows of someone who can drive me to San Jose, I would be happy. I am willing to pay a decent rate. But $240 seems excessive.

- Rincon de la Vieja - stayed at Hacienda Guachipelin, hiked Las Pailas, etc
- Bijagua - hiked Rio Celeste
- Arenal - Hanging Bridges, 1968 trail, Venado Caves
- Monteverde - Curicancha Reserve hike, SkyWalk/Tram/zipline…

Hi,
I have been considering a couple of places for a winter away, beginning this December. I had at first considered Florida(given up as too rich for my budget) and then Cuba, but am leaning away from there after getting lots of advice from Thorn Tree posters. Costa Rica has been on my travel "to do "list for quite a while and am wondering if it would be appropriate for my winter escape.
To give some background, I am a single, 60 year old male and my budget would be $2,000 US per…
