Hi all,
- - I am considering volunteering at Tree of Life in Cahuita, CR. Looking for anyone who has done this. I am interested in hearing about your experience & opinion of the rescue. I have read rave reviews about it. The only negative things I can find are posted by people who don't seem to understand the process at all. I have spent time at Paseos Los Monos in Ecuador and loved it. Extremely hard work when I was there, immeasurable reward.
- - A bit about me: After many, many trips to…

Hi
We are planning to visit Costa Rica in October and rented 4*4 during our staying.
My wife and I are little worry because of the long drive in the rain season from La Fortuna towards Monteverde.
We are coming with our kids ages 4 and 6
and read in trip-advisor that the road is dangerous.
From your experience is it safe for us to come?
What are the tips you can give us?
Thanks

There used to be no crocs in the river years ago and just Bull Sharks, so if you were on the surfboard paddling across, it was not really a risk. But low tide is another story, as you can even walk it though the currents are strong.

Last time I was surfing in Tamarindo in 2014 I crossed here and saw crocs on the river banks upstream but they were under 4ft long...but I knew it was matter of…

Planning a trip to Costa Rica. We will be going to the Arenal Volcano area and the beach. Better to fly in/out of Liberia or San Jose?

Hello My name is John and my son and I will be leaving Minnesota with a Motorhome. What are the bad things things we should expect? Will the borders be hard to cross? We both love Costa Rica looking at the different countries in Central America. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
John

I am planning an 8 day vacation in Costa Rica. I am deciding between a Costa Rica Monkey Tour deal for $1,199 or custom planning the trip. Others who have traveled to CR, would love to get their feedback. Is it more cost-efficient to do the tour or to custom plan the trip oneself? Thanks so much!

I am still working on my itinerary as I have the amazingly good fortune to have three weeks in Costa Rica. All of the recent posts and previous feedback have been really helpful. I also have a ton of travel guides I have been working with and comparing. So here are some beginning ideas. Based on recent posts I am wondering if I should cut out Monteverde and maybe substitute another cloud forest area. My intent is to spend about a week in the Central area, a week on the Caribbean coast and then…

I'm currently in the early planning stages of a 2 week trip with the family to Costa Rica this January. We've been to Arenal, Monteverde, Rincon de la Vieja, Rio Celeste, and Guanacaste regions before but would like to see something new. The kids are 6 and 8 years old, so most higher class rafting trips are out. I also think they are still a bit too young to be able to truly explore the Osa. My tentative itinerary would be to spend 1-2 days around either Sarapiqui or Arenal region, then a few…

Taking my wife to CR in late July & August, and need some advice. We have 15 days, and I can't decide if I want to stay in the Caribbean Coast, or do both Caribbean AND Arenal. I love backpacking, but she likes to relax more than I do. I'm OK with some touristy spots, but not "TOO" touristy. Trying to find a delicate balance :) Thanks in advance for any help / tips / consideration / or just reading :)

Schedule thus far:

Day1: Arrive SJ at noon. Stay the day since we don't make the bus on…

Hi all,

We are planning a trip to Costa Rica in December and with it being such an amazing country, it is really difficult to make decisions on the itinerary. I have read the travel guides, forums etc and have come to a (rather ambitious) itinerary. I was wondering if you all think it is too ambitious or if it can be done. The idea would be to fly to Drake Bay (I think) and we don't mind renting a car for some time (it can be included in the budget).

Things we would like to do are : zip…
