I'm planning my first solo travel experience and I decided on Costa Rica for my destination. Will be traveling the second week of August and staying for 7-8 days. Haven't done much planning yet other than flying into San Jose and going from there. Any and all tips would be greatly appreciated! I'm extremely adventurous and love all things outdoorsy. Where should I sightsee? Any suggestions for hikes, notable architecture to visit, restaurants/cafes, etc.
Delta cancelled one of my flights tomorrow to San Jose so instead of arriving early afternoon and renting a car and leaving for Ojochal, I now arrive late evening and need to stay in San Jose overnight. Does anyone have a good, inexpensive suggestion for a hotel near the airport to stay one night? Thanks!
Mount Turrialba is continuing to erupt today, spewing ash clouds which are reaching three to four kilometers into the sky. The volcano, located about 40 miles outside of San Jose, has been erupting on and off throughout May.
Hi, I am considering visiting Costa Rica in the summer. The plan would be to spend more time on the Atlantic side. Is it too hot? Is it really not the time to go, what are your thoughts?
I always suspected this especially after they were involved with an attempted robbery of pygmy sloths from Panama to be put in a zoo in the U.S

Hi all--We're headed to Costa Rica for 2 weeks in December. I've got a few questions I hope those of you that have been or live there can answer. I've not got the whole itinerary ironed out, but here's my "rough draft"--1 night San Jose, 3 nights Fortuna, 2 nights Monteverde, 4 nights Montezuma. That leaves 4 nights unplanned as the last night will be back to San Jose. Here are my questions:
We will rent a car. Some places I've read say a 4x4 or at least SUV are necessary…
I am going to Costa Rica from November 15-December 1st My plan is to stay the first night in San jose as we fly in late at 9pm, travel to La Paz waterfall garden and possibly stay in Vara Blanca that night and go to La fortuna from there, Monteverde, Tamarindo and Brasilito beach and head back to San Jose from there. I have a few questions....
- I think for 2 weeks my itinerary is ambitious but is there anywhere in that area I am majorly missing out on?
- I don't want to be tied down…
