Volcán Turrialba Lodge
Lonely Planet review
Accessible by 4WD only, this working cattle ranch truly gets you away from it all. Tidy, lemon-yellow cabinas are heated by wood stoves and contain full kitchens, and the area offers fantastic views of Volcán Turrialba. The staff can also organize hikes and horseback rides. Meals (US$3 to US$20) are typical country cooking, served in front of a blazing stove at the restaurant-lounge, where there is a TV, board games and a small bar. It gets chilly up here, so bring warm clothes.
