Lonely Planet review
The Mono Azul is decent value and a good family option – nestled in a tropical garden and decorated throughout in a rainforest theme, rooms are arranged around three pools. Skip the restaurant, though. Ten per cent of hotel receipts are donated to Kids Saving the Rainforest (KSTR), founded here by two local schoolchildren in 1999.
The girls were concerned about the endangered mono tití (Central American squirrel monkey). Many of these adorable critters were run over on the narrow road to the national park or electrocuted on overhanging electrical cables, so KSTR purchased and erected monkey ‘bridges’ across the road (you can see them, often in use, as you head to the park). All proceeds from the hotel's on-site souvenir shop also go directly to KSTR.
Our independent authors have visited Hotel Mono Azul and selected this as one of our recommended hotels in Quepos to Manuel Antonio.
