  1. A

    Pacific Bistro

This deservedly popular place is run by a gourmet chef from California who specializes in Pan-Asian–style fusion dishes. Whether you’re partial to Indonesian-style noodles and fiery Thai curries, or more refined Japanese soba and fish fillets topped with exotic Chinese sauces, one thing is for certain: this gem of a restaurant really hits the spot, especially if you’ve been craving fine Asian cuisine.

  2. B

    El Hicaco

This oceanside spot brims with casual elegance and is regarded as one of the finer dining experiences in Jacó. Although the menu is entirely dependent on seasonal offerings, both from the land and the sea, the specialty of the house is seafood, prepared with a variety of special sauces highlighted by Costa Rica’s tropical produce.

  3. C

    Rioasis

There’s pizza, and then there’s pizza – this much loved pizzeria definitely falls into the latter category, especially since there are more than 30 different kinds of pies on the menu. Of course, considering that each one emerges from an authentic wood-fired oven, and is topped with gourmet ingredients from both Costa Rica and abroad, you really can’t go wrong here.

  4. D

    Calinche’s Wishbone Eatery

Overseen by the charming Calinche, this is the most famous restaurant in town, and has been so for years and years. The eclectic menu includes pizzas, pitas, stuffed potatoes, pan-seared sea bass and tuna-sashimi salads, though its justifiable fame comes from the fact that everything is quite simply fresh, delicious and good value.

    Bar Restaurante Colonial

Centered on a large bar facing the alfresco table settings, this breezy tapas-style bar and restaurant is perfect for some light noshing followed up by a crafted cocktail or two. Fast-food staples are balanced out by local seafood options, while signature drinks make excellent use of regional liquors and fresh fruit juices.

  6. F

    Soda Flor

This Jacó institution is a perennial favorite of locals and budget travelers alike. Remarkably, the menu hasn’t changed in years despite the fact that nearly every other place in town is now offering every-thing from sushi to sirloin. Food is fresh, tasty, cheap and 100% Costa Rican, and the portions here are huge.

    Tsunami Sushi

If you’ve got a hankering for raw fish, don’t miss Tsunami, a modern and lively restaurant that serves up an exquisite assortment of sushi, sashimi and California rolls. Pacific sport fish – dolphinfish, tuna and wahoo – are the freshest rolls.

  8. H

    Pancho Villa’s

The food here certainly isn’t gourmet by any stretch of the imagination, but it caters to every conceivable taste from Tico and Western to Asian and Mexican. Even if you skip dinner, you’ll probably end up here at some point since the kitchen is open until the wee hours of the morning.

    Wok

The Wok's pan-Asian menu is reliably good – especially the stir-fries and the ribs (only available on Wednesdays) – and it stays open late. The scattered tables facing Jacó's main street also provide primo people-watching. It's next to Budget Rent-a-Car.

  10. J

    Soda A Cachete

Although many of the local sodas have been pushed out by Gringo palates, this little place survives through its loyal following of local surfers, who drop by for huge, excellent breakfasts and set lunches. A few bucks will get you rice, beans, a fish or meat dish of the day and some juice. It's across from the Red Cross.

  12. K

    Los Amigos

The English menu at Los Amigos announces a motley mix of Mexican and Thai food, lunch wraps and snacks that cater to North American tastes. Sounds like gringo central, right? Perhaps it is, but it fits perfectly in Jacó, and the pre-party atmosphere, wi-fi and cranked air-con feels just right. The food is nothing to write home about, but it comes in big portions and all the imports on the long beer list are a godsend for those who crave hops.

  13. L

    Lemon Zest

Chef Richard Lemon (a former instructor at Le Cordon Bleu Miami) wins ample accolades for Jacó's most swish menu. The menu's roster of upscale standards – shrimp and penne; seared duck in blackberry sauce; grilled tuna – might lack a creative concept, but they're carried out with due sophistication in a dining room of soft light and modern paintings. Plus, the drinks menu is excellent. It's just south of Mas x Menos Supermarket.

This Western-style supermarket has an impressive selection of fresh produce, and local and international culinary items.

    Hotel Poseidon Restaurant

This is one of the most sophisticated restaurants in town, and the specialty here is fresh seafood served up with Asian flare. Sauces are inventive, the staff professional and the atmosphere upscale yet relaxing. A good bet for top-quality food and refined European-style dining that consistently receives good marks from travelers.
