Moored on the Buda side just south of Petofi Bridge, the A38 is a decommissioned Ukrainian stone hauler ship from 1968 that has been recycled as a major floating bar and live-music venue. So cool it's hot in summer and the hold, well, rocks throughout the year.

The latest and greatest posterboy of Singapore's night scene, St James Power Station is a 1920s coal-fired power station ingeniously converted into an entertainment complex of interconnected bars and clubs (one cover charge gets access to all). Some - Gallery Bar, Lobby Bar and Peppermint Park - have no cover charge.
