Bus

The bus terminal is a short walk north of the city center. Be sure to check conditions on all routes out of Popayán. At the time of writing, travel along the Panamericana was considered safe, but conditions can change quickly so check ahead. Avoid travel after dark. Also be sure to check conditions on any roads off the main highway, particularly to Tierradentro and San Agustín.

Plenty of buses run to Cali (US$5, three hours), and there are also minibuses and colectivos every hour or so. Buses to Bogotá run every hour or two (US$26, 15 hours). Likewise, there are buses to Pasto at least every hour (US$10, six hours).

Buses to Tierradentro (US$7, five to six hours) and Agustín (US$10 to US$12, six to eight hours) tend to leave in the mornings only; try to check timetables a day ahead if you're on a tight schedule.
