  1. Jardín, Colombia: The Traveller’s Holy Grail

Blog: Never Ending Voyage - 18 February 2011

Jardín may be the ideal small town with its colourful colonial buildings, warm climate, backdrop of lush green hills, friendly people, sociable plaza lined with cafes, low prices, horses and carts roaming the streets and no gringos in sight. It’s not even difficult to get to – just a 3.5 hour bus ride from Medellin.

  3. A Pleasant Surprise

    Blog: Hecktic Travels - 9 April 2010

Who knew? There are many places in Colombia that are deemed "must stops" along the gringo route - but Manizales has not been featured on any list that we have seen. On Monday we arrived into this city of roughly half a million people not quite sure what to expect, but have come away pretty impressed.

  4. Decisions, decisions!

    Blog: Hecktic Travels - 5 April 2010

Seven months on the road, and these travelers are beginning to grow somewhat weary. The pursuit of adventure is alive and well as we still relish in each new vista seen or new friend met... but after seven months of living out of a backpack (five of which we have been constantly moving), breaking points are beginning to be hit, for several reasons.

Blog: Diaries of a Vagabonding Couple - 5 April 2010

Blog: Diaries of a Vagabonding Couple - 5 April 2010

  7. Day 53: Loved by Colombia! Loving Colombia!

Blog: Diaries of a Vagabonding Couple - 5 April 2010

Colorful houses and Salento local Watching the village of Salento wake from her sleep is a treat for the senses. Sound of unlocking doors and locals greeting one another in cheerful shouts, sight of cowboys in sombreros and artists opening shop, aromas of fresh bread and roasted Colombian beans... Only 2 days here and the locals recognize us - the beauty of village life, which on this

  8. Who needs Starbucks?

    Blog: Itinerant Londoner - 5 August 2009

After a fair amount of distinctly average tintos (the ubiquitous small cups of Colombian black coffee – unfortunately most of the best stuff is exported) I was keen to try the real thing, and my stay in Manizales, at the heart of the Zona Cafetera was the perfect opportunity. The highlands south of Medellin have the [...]

  9. Snow in July

    Blog: Itinerant Londoner - 3 August 2009

Altitude sickness is a serious matter. In mild cases it can lead to headaches, dizziness and vomiting. In more serious ones it can lead to death. The good news is that it’s easy to avoid by ascending slowly once above 2,500m in altitude… …and not by going straight from less than 2,500m up to 4,800m in [...]
