Lonely Planet review for Restaurante Hatoviejo
A favorite of Medellín's carnivores, this is the best place in the center for regional dishes such as plato montañero, an artery-clogging conglomeration of ground beef, eggs and fried pork skin.

“The only meal in the entire day”
jrgomez recommends this,
If you are Downtown and you want to try the local food, this is a reasonable choice. Middle range prices (for Colombian standard), tasty flavor and lots of regionalism.
Like in all typical restaurants in Medellín and surrounding areas, the most common plate is called “Bandeja Paisa”, the translation is difficult: Big platter made in Antioquia (“Paisa” is how Colombians call the people from this mountain region), and consist in a magical combination that you won’t believe: with rice, red beans, grounded dry meat, sweet plantain, chorizo (spicy chunky pork sausage), morcilla (is best if you don’t know, but is an wonderful blood sausage), crispy pork skin deep fried, avocado, arepa (like a fat flour tortilla), and one fried egg on top. The only way that you can digest this plate is having one or two shots of Aguardiente (Fire water), a distilled liquor from sugar cane.
And for dessert you may have Mazamorra (sweet soup of corn grains in milk). If you have this typical lunch, you won’t need diner….
