Villa de Leyva

I have a couple of days on my own after flying into Bogota before my group arrives, and would like to go to Villa de Leyva: either a day trip or a 1- night overnight. The LP Advertisements looked do-able at about $126 for a daytrip, but clicking through for potential booking ended up at more like $330 for a day trip. I am thinking that what might make sense is spend my first night in Bogota, then do an overnight trip to Villa de Leyva and return to Bogota... but not sure I really want to…

EL Cocuy 6 day trail

Hello

There seems to be a lot of people saying that the 6 day trek at El Cocuy is closed but couldnt see one that was a recent visitor to the area. Has anyone visited recently and know whether the trail is open?

Also I'd like to hear from people who have done the trail without a guide, I've trekked alone in Nepal before but always with a tea house and food waiting for me at the end of the day. Is it that much harder to do the trail without a guide?

thanks all.

Do I need anti-malarials?

I'm leaving for Colombia on Saturday for just under a month. I didn't even think about malaria until a nurse friend mentioned it to me the other day. Our itinerary is basically Bogota - Cartagena - Santa Marta - Minca - Medellin. We haven't been able to get an appointment at this late date with a travel clinic. Do we really need to worry about malaria in these places? I'm not able to find much in the way of updated info on this.

Thanks!

Easy Fly airline

Any experience with Easy Fly? It is listed in Lonely Planet and I am looking to fly it directly from Bucaramanga to Cartagena direct. Is it dependable or should I eat the bullet and fly a bigger (LAN or Avianca) aniline's connecting flight losing time?

Many thanks!

Looking for Hiking Buddy for El Cocuy

Hi,

My name is Karen and i am currently staying in Cali for my internship. I planned to go to el Cocuy by end of this year as we have public holidays (approx. from the 28th-5th of january). It seems like its rather complicated to hike there if you do not wanna make a tour from bogota (which costs a lot and does not do a lot of hiking). but as i see it, it is supposed to be one of the most stunning hikes to do in colombia! anyone interested in going there in this this place in around the same…

Need itinerary advice for last-minute trip! (Bogota, Cartagena, Tayrona, Medellin, Zona Cafetera)

Hi there!

I'm taking an impromptu trip with my sister to Colombia, leaving in two days! We're trying to pull together an itinerary now and would love suggestions and feedback.

For context - I arrive to Bogota Dec 17 in the evening, and she arrives the following evening. We both depart from Bogota in the very early morning of Dec 30 (1 AM flight). We're interested in seeing Bogota, Cartagena, Tayrona, Medellin, and the Zona Cafetera. Because our trip is short, we're planning to take domestic…

Hiking in Colombia

Hi everyone! I just left the beautiful North and got to Bogota today. My original plans were to camp for several days in PNN Chingaza and then to hike and camp again in PNN El Cocuy.

I've been told that the six day trek in El Cocuy is closed, and a longer trip there would basically be a series of day trips strung together. That's fine by me, but now I'm realizing I've packed too light. Would it be worth it to buy a cheap winter coat and base layers that I can leave behind? I don't have spare…
