Getting around
With some time on your hands and a sense of adventure, it's possible to travel up and down the Río Magdalena on passenger and cargo ships. Boats ply its murky waters from Barranquilla to El Banco and beyond. From El Banco, it's a 7½-hour trip upstream to Barrancbermeja (Baranca) from where you can catch a bus to Bucaramanga.
