Getting there & away
Cañaveral is easy to get to on your own from Santa Marta. Take a minibus to Palomino and get off in El Zaíno (US$2.50, one hour); Palomino minibuses depart every 20 to 30 minutes from Santa Marta's market (at the corner of Carrera 11 and Calle 11). From El Zaíno, walk for 50 minutes to Cañaveral or catch the jeep that shuttles regularly between the two towns (US$0.60, 10 minutes). Alternatively, a tourist bus departs most days from outside the Hotel Miramar at 10am, driving direct to Cañaveral.
Bahía Concha and Bahía Neguanje are accessible by unsurfaced roads, but there's no public transport on these roads. In the tourist season, jeeps go to both bays from Santa Marta; they park on Carrera 1C near Turcol. Inquire at the tourist office and backpackers hotels (Hotel Miramar, Casa Familiar), which may know about other options.
When there is demand, a boat may take tourists to the park from Taganga for US$11 each. Ask around the boat dock so that something can be prearranged.
