A popular spot for long-term visitors, the café is actually a bar located on the western ramparts of the old city. Drinks and food are available and the music options are often house or salsa. The spectacular views are free.

Another very loud disco bar, but this one has a nice balcony overlooking the square, just in case you need a break from the dance floor.

Leon de Baviera
Run by an expat German named Stefan, this intimate bar serves Edinger, a German beer, and harder booze. The German touch is furthered by the pork pie hats and lederhosen that hang from the walls, and waitresses dressed up like the Saint Pauli girl. Stefan plays '80s and '90s rock music, with videos projected on a large screen.

Open on weekends, this ultra-flash gay club has fiery lasers, strobe lights and pumping music, plus the occasional strip tease.

Mister Babilla
One of the most popular discos, Mister Babilla consists of two rooms, a dance floor and a large bar. It's a colorful and atmospheric place that plays mostly salsa music, but might not get going till quite late. Its crowd tends to be a bit more businesslike and highbrow than other clubs, many of which don't have a cover charge.

Ritmo Caribe
This small techno place has a bombing base that doesn't allow for much conversation, but it's great if you just want to dance. It's free on weekdays but charges a cover on weekends.

Tu Candela
A smaller, less formal version of Mister Babilla, this place is decorated with tribal masks, sea shells, old transistor radios and bongo drums. The upstairs section is great for dancing, but the downstairs bar is pretty quiet. The cover includes one drink.

This lively tapas bar is one of the best places in the center for evening drinks and good music. They also have a big-screen TV projecting either football matches or music videos.

Only open one night a week, this gay-and-lesbian-friendly discotheque also plays loud thumping music, but is more casual than Lincoln Road.
