Enchiladas
You'll either be mildly satisfied (if you're American or Mexican) or head over heels (if you're from somewhere with a distinct lack of Mexican cuisine) at this festive spot, with Mayan reliefs, a toasty fireplace and old Mexican film photos on the walls.

Trouble finds you in the form of over 3000 tequila bottles decorating this festive, fun-time Mexican, but the food – with specialties from all over Mexico – is the real draw.

Agave Azul
This expanding five-table restaurant is a trip, both literally and figuratively, through truly authentic Mexican cuisine by way of Chicago, New York and Oaxaca. Chef Tatiana Navarro has no menu – just a daily open-ended tasting menu (you just call, 'Uncle!'). Possibilities include a ridiculous salmon ceviche in a habanero and passionfruit sauce, adobo prawn tacos or huitlacoche (corn fungus) and cheese dumplings, usually served alongside vibrant small-town salsas. Chase it with an outstanding chipotle margarita and you have reached nirvana cocina Mexicana. Reservations essential.
