Way up in upscale north Bogotá, the five-floor Hacienda Royal is not really a hacienda, but a comfortable business hotel attached to a modern, rather lonely, mall in Uzacuen (a one-time outskirt town to Bogotá). The rooms' giant windows look out over nearby mountains and a pleasant residential park.
Standard rooms feature a smart recent renovation - orange-and-gold swirly paint-jobs on the walls, pull-out sofa beds and small desks with Internet access. For a little extra, the business suite is roomier (although still a one-room deal); if you're needing separation between bed and work, the Suite Royal comes with a sitting area with a second TV and a big dining table that can double as a desk. Suites with terraces cost slightly more. The free breakfast is served in the lobby restaurant. Perks include a side TV lounge with chess, and a 24-hour fitness centre. If you want a break from the mall's fast-food stands, Uzacuen's restaurants are a three-block walk north.
