Lonely Planet review for Centro Cultural Gabriel García Márquez

Opened in 2008 and a modern addition to La Candelaria, this expansive new complex pays homage to Colombia’s most famous author in name, but its events span the cultural spectrum way past literature. There’s also a giant bookstore (with a few English titles), a hamburger restaurant and cafe.

    I loved this place!

    julienyc recommends this,

I saw a great free exhibit (albeit quite small) with some of the best advertising posters from the last half century - all from France. The Juan Valdez Cafe (Colombia's answer to Starbucks - looks virtually identical with nothing more than a change in color schemes) was filled with what seemed like the young intellectual crowd of Bogota. The best part was the huge bookstore where they have readings and talks from authors and lots, and lots, and lots of books. I found tons of interesting books in Spanish that I had never heard of - it was tough to limit myself to the 6 or 7 books I bought.
