I'm Lonely Planet's destination editor for China. The previous post on this topic had gotten very long and was started several years ago. A lot has changed about the Chinese visa situation, so I thought it might be useful to provide a summary of the current situation as we and our writers understand it. For the full run-down on everything you need to know about visas and entry requirements for China, including prices and detailed processing times, check out the China page: http://ww…
As obtaining a Chinese tourist visa appears to have gotten much easier, that long sticky thread has now been released to float. OTOH there appear to be increased concerns and lots of issues related to obtaining a tourist visa extension.
It is my intention to search through and try to collect some posted information here in this thread but would appreciate others offering first hand information and questions here rather than starting multiple threads.
For starters, Leshan has consistently been…
Am due to land at Kunming Airport at 2210h. How can I get to the hostel near Green Lake cheaply and efficiently late at night??
I understand there are two competing airport bus companies (the airport bus #1, 2, 3, 4....; and the 919A, B, C....). Do they have routes to go near green lake this late at night??
I already have Chinese visa so going thru immigrstion and custom should be a breeze.
Thanks very much!!
I am trying to find out if it is still possible to get a visa for Vietnam at the Hekou Border crossing?
I know that this is officially not possible as stated in some travel guides and online (https://www.travelfish.org/visas/vietnam#visaborder-12) But I have heard and read that it has been possible for some people in the past.
I've had mixed answers from local Chinese people saying yes you can and some saying you can't. I've also read some blog posts and on other forums that it…
I will be in Hong Kong for 2 weeks and was wondering what a good SIM brand would be for a short time like this, that's also cost effective. I only like to use the SIM for data (google maps...), and in case I need to call locally for emergencies. Last time I got the Hong Kong tourism board SIM, but it seems more expensive and works for less time than others (only working a week). What are your suggestions?
In 2 days, we need to get to Dali coming from Anshun.
It seems that traintickets from Kunming to Dali are already sold out so we will have to take a bus instead.
What is the distance between the south train station and the west bus station?
Which bus can we take to travel between train and bus station in Kunming?
Im planning on going to China from mid May to mid June. I need to end up in Hong Kong but internal flights arnt too expensive so I dont need to base my whole trip around this.
Id like to see a mix of things. I enjoy quiet places and nature but I also like cities providing they're not too crazy. For instance I liked Chiang Mai but Delhi was a bit much for me. I like being social but for some reason I seem to find it easier to meet backpackers in smaller / more chilled places eg Laos over…
I changed jobs while in china but company A cancelled z visa because I left. So I went through an agent (big mistake) whocwanted me to work temporarily on tourist visa for company B while I filed for new (probably fake) z visa. I worked there for only 2 weeks as I didn't comfortable and having done more research into it, I decided to quit, cut my losses and come home to save me the hassle of going to HK and doing things illegally. I am home now and have been offered new job by company C directly…
