Itinerary
Day 1 Transfer Beijing to Great Wall
From Beijing we will head northwest out of the city to a section of the Great Wall known as Simatai. Originally built during the Northern Qi Dynasty (550 – 577) it was rebuilt during the Ming Dynasty (1368 – 1644), and as such is one of the few remaining sections of the Great Wall that retains features and the architectural style of the Ming Dynasty period. After lunch we will spend the rest of the day walking along Simatai Wall which is characterised by numerous watchtowers that are constructed along its length. In the late afternoon we will return to our comfortable guesthouse in Jinshanling to enjoy dinner.
Day 2 Walk from Simatai to Jinshanling
We will set out from Jinshanling to walk another section of the Great Wall. The walk will take at least 4 hours, with the terrain varying from smooth well preserved walkways to steep and stony sections. We recommend you have shoes with good grip for this section. We will pass many watchtowers and fortifications, and gain a real sense of the scale of the Great Wall. We will stop for a picnic lunch along the way, with a chance to rest and relax and enjoy the spectacular views, before returning via a mountain valley and local villages to our Jinshanling guesthouse. Time to freshen up before enjoying a well deserved dinner.
Day 3 Return to Beijing, trip concludes
Breakfast will be at Jinshanling before we are transported by private vehicle back to Beijing. The trip concludes on arrival in Beijing city; if you require accommodation or an airport transfer please contact your travel consultant for booking details.
