Travelling in China reveals a country of exciting contrasts, a place where city lights brighten ancient alleyways, where spectacular, natural landscapes conceal imperial monuments and where village life continues as it has for centuries. Breathe in the bustle of Hong Kong and Shanghai, marvel at the picturesque scenery of Zhangjiajie, escape from the crowds for a laidback time in Fenghuang and travel down the Yangzi by boat. Then mix with worshippers at Wenshu Monastery and visit the Giant Panda Breeding Research Base in Chengdu. Discover these delicious contradictions on a travel adventure from vibrant city to rustic countryside and back again.


Days 1-2 Hong Kong
A British colony until 1997, Hong Kong's cityscape is spectacular and its modern fast-paced life is only minutes from picturesque islands and beaches.
Days 3-4 Zhangjiajie
Set in one of China's most beautiful locations, Zhangjiajie is home to an amazing World Heritage-listed national park, which is filled with unique sky-rocketing pillars and twisting streams.
Days 5-6 Fenghuang
With green waters, ancient walls, stilted houses, and lantern-lit streets, Fenghuang (Phoenix Town) is a beautifully preserved ancient town guaranteed to enchant.
Days 7-10 Yangzi River
Located on the Yangzi River, Yichang is an important trading town and has been the site of many historic battles due to its strategic location. Named after the site of an ancient ferry crossing, the Yangzi River flows for 6,418 km and winds through a diverse range of China's landscapes.
Days 11-12 Chengdu
Chengdu has plenty of traditional flavour with its famous tea houses, numerous markets and as the home of Sichuan cuisine, known the world over for its spiciness.
Days 13-14 Shanghai
Blending 21st-century architecture with old-world character, Shanghai is the vibrant pulse of new China.
