Land

Bus

Convenient express buses to Běijīng (Y20, 1½ hours, 6am to 6pm) depart hourly from Tiānjīn’s main train station. Scads of other buses depart from here to other destinations around China, including Dàlián (Y150, sleeper) and Qīngdǎo (Y150). A shared taxi to Běijīng from the main train station will cost around Y50 per person. Regular buses to Zhaogongkou bus station in Běijīng (Y30, 6.30am to 6.30pm) also run from the Liu‑yisan Lu bus station (2311 2278; Liùyīsān Lù Qìchēzhàn) off Nanjing Lu. In Běijīng, Tiānjīn-bound buses (Y30, 1½ hours, every 30 minutes) run from the Zhaogongkou bus station, the Sihui bus station (Y23, every hour) or the Bawangfen bus station (Y31, regularly).

Train

Tiānjīn has three train stations: main, north and west. Most trains leave from the main train station (Tiānjīn Zhàn; 6053 6053). If you have to alight at the west train station (2618 2662), bus 24, which runs 24 hours, will take you to the main train station.

A major north–south train junction, Tiānjīn has frequent trains to Běijīng (Y25 to Y35), extensive links with the northeastern provinces, and lines southwards to Ānyáng (hard seat/sleeper Y92/170), Jǐ’nán (hard seat/sleeper Y40/Y88), Nánjīng (hard seat/sleeper Y137/249), Qīngdǎo (hard seat/sleeper Y78/156), Shànghǎi (hard sleeper Y301), Shíjiāzhuāng (hard seat/sleeper Y55/139), Zhèngzhōu (hard seat/sleeper Y98/184) and other cities.

Boat

Tiānjīn’s harbour is Tánggū, 50km (30 minutes by train or one hour by bus) from Tiānjīn.

Air

Tiānjīn’s Binhai International Airport (Tiānjīn Bīnhǎi Guójì Jīchǎng; 2490 2950) is 15km east of the city centre. Taxis ask for around Y40 to Y50 to the airport from the city centre.
