Introducing Tánggū

About 50km from Tiānjīn, Tánggū is one of China’s major international seaports. There’s little of interest in Tánggū and most travellers visit to catch ferries to Dàlián (northeast China), Kōbe (Japan) or Incheon (South Korea).

Dagu Fort (; Dàgū Pàotái; Paotai Lu; admission Y10; 8am-6pm) This fort on the southern bank of the Hai River dates from the 16th century. There is a small museum chronicling the various invasions by foreign imperialists and a collection of large iron cannons. Bus 110 from Tánggū train station drops you at the end of the road; from there it’s a five- or 10-minute walk to the fort.
