Hi everyone,
I'm Lonely Planet's destination editor for China. The previous post on this topic had gotten very long and was started several years ago. A lot has changed about the Chinese visa situation, so I thought it might be useful to provide a summary of the current situation as we and our writers understand it. For the full run-down on everything you need to know about visas and entry requirements for China, including prices and detailed processing times, check out the China page: http://ww

As obtaining a Chinese tourist visa appears to have gotten much easier, that long sticky thread has now been released to float. OTOH there appear to be increased concerns and lots of issues related to obtaining a tourist visa extension.

It is my intention to search through and try to collect some posted information here in this thread but would appreciate others offering first hand information and questions here rather than starting multiple threads.

For starters, Leshan has consistently been…

Is the Western Suburban Line of Beijing's metro open yet? Will it be open by mid-October? I've checked online and seen statements that it was supposed to open in 2016, but haven't seen anything saying it is open.

I'll be in Beijing for a few days in October, and if the Western Suburban Line is finished I'm thinking about checking out Fragrant Hills Park on the same day I see the Summer Palace. The park sounds like it would be nice in fall when the leaves turn colour.

Hi.

I want to go to China and study at a Kung fu academy for a few months, but have no idea which one (and where in China) to choose! Does anyone have any advice? Most important is that I wouldn't want to be the only international student at the academy so I'm probably looking for somewhere a bit touristy.

Thanks
Mark

Hi,

Wondering if anybody can help me with a few questions I have about my visa application, it's my first time traveling to China. I'll be applying for a 10 year tourist visa for US citizens. My first question is this, I'm also a Dutch citizen and am wondering if I should fill that in, in the 'current nationalities' section but I want to apply as a US citizen. Then, it asks for local ID/Citizenship Number, is that my Social Security Number? Also, my mother is a journalist/editor, what should I…

Hello,

I am seeking information about purchasing a car in China, and would be grateful for any advice, experience, ect.

I've been reading a little about purchasing a car in China, and much of what I've read is about how difficult it can be. So I'll outline my plan so far, feel free to comment.

My aim is to buy a car in China (or Mongolia if China proves too difficult), and drive north through Mongolia, Southern Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, then back into China. I thought it would be…

Hey,

I'm in the midst of figuring out plans to head to China, and one thing I have come across from friends (who have travelled there on their own without gaining their Z Visa through an agency when a TEFL job has been approved) is about 'document autherisation' in relation to a police check, TEFL qualification and Bachelors Degree qualification documents. I haven't, however, read about this anywhere on Chinese/UK embassy pages?

Anyone with an insight would be very appreciated!

Hello all,

We (myself and my girlfriend) will be spending a couple of weeks in Ningxia and the Eastern part of Gansu in September, and I was thinking about doing a day trip perhaps to walk along some part of the Great Wall in one or the other. Does anyone have any advice on where would be good to do this? A rough plan of our itinerary is below.

If anyone has any other tips on any of the other items on our itinerary it would be appreciated too, I know this is a less visited part of China so…

Hello I'm planning on going to China next month. I want to fly into Chengdu but I will probably just take a one flight into China and travel for two months and then buy my flight to exit in Hong Kong. I already have my visa so that will not be a problem. I would like to know would I have any trouble while entering China on my visa? Could I possible be denied entry if I do not have an exit ticket? I will also add that I spent four months in China form November 2015 to February 2016.

Thank You
