Arranged over two floors and entered via Xingye Rd in Xīntiāndì, this fascinating exhibition invites you into a typical shíkùmén household, decked out with period furniture.

The ground floor arrangement contains a courtyard, entrance hall, bedroom, study and lounge, small kitchen to the rear and natural illumination spilling down from light wells ( tiānjǐng ) above. The small and frequently north-facing wedge-shaped tíngzijiān room on the landing almost at the top of the stairs between the first and second floors was a common feature of shíkùmén houses, and was often rented out. The main bedrooms are all on the second floor, linked together by doors.
