The Mansion Hotel
Lonely Planet review
This historic landmark is worth a peek even if you’re not staying here. Housed in a 1930s building that was originally the residence of Sun Tingsun – a business partner of Huang Jinrong and Du Yuesheng, (two of Shànghǎi’s most powerful gangsters) – stepping inside is like stepping back in time to the city’s glorious, notorious past. The Mansion Hotel’s concept of combining antique furnishings and modern luxury is a good one, though the place is starting to show some wear and the service is not at the level of Shànghǎi’s high-end international hotels. That said, all rooms are huge and come with beautifully upholstered wood furniture, big-screen satellite TVs and, in all but the twins, Jacuzzis big enough for two. Expect discounts of around 50%.
Our independent authors have visited The Mansion Hotel and selected this as one of our recommended hotels in Shànghǎi.
