Discreetly tucked away east of the Printemps department store on one of Shànghǎi's most popular commercial streets, this small and handy boutique-style hotel is easy to miss as you saunter down Huaihai Rd - and that's a good sign.

From its restrained outward appearance to the hotel's small and well-proportioned lobby (with Art Deco style motifs and casual black leather furniture), this hotel is both relaxed and intimate. Staff are pleasant and the broadband-equipped rooms are large. Rooms at the front overlook busy Huaihai Rd and the splendid garden of the Okura Garden Hotel, but the rooms at the back facing onto a lovely backdrop of redbrick lòngtáng (alleyway) housing are larger and quieter. Exit the hotel and wander these alleys for a flavour of yesteryear, pre-high-rise Shànghǎi. The hotel is also ideally located for shopping expeditions up and down Huaihai Rd. Nonsmoking rooms are on the 7th floor. There's a 2nd-floor lounge, a rooftop beer garden, a variety of restaurants and a Starbucks on the ground floor.
